«Stonewashed» can be understood literally in this case: the fabric after production is washed in very hot water with the addition of pumice and volcanic rock.
The most important advantage of stonewashed cotton is that it looks stunning without ironing. During production, the fabric is treated in a special way, making it look slightly bruised at first.
